Sargassum above all — Tulum is the worst-hit beach stretch on the Riviera Maya, and 2026 is a record year, so beach quality is genuinely not guaranteed. Anchor the trip on ruins, cenotes and Sian Ka'an rather than a pristine-beach promise. Is cenote and cave diving in Tulum dangerous?

It demands the right certification for serious overhead-environment diving. Sistema Sac Actun and Dos Ojos are caves: cavern diving requires a certified cave/cavern guide and must stay in the daylight zone, and the dark cave zone requires full cave certification — no exceptions, no solo penetration.
