Good to know

What's the real risk to plan for at Amboseli?
Elephants and remoteness. Amboseli's herds are large and free-ranging - keep a respectful distance, stay in the vehicle and follow your guide (elephants can charge if threatened). Malaria is the main health risk (prophylaxis + DEET), and the park is remote - carry AMREF Flying Doctors (~$40 pp/30 days) + travel-medical insurance. · kws.go.ke
When is the best time to visit Amboseli - for game and Kilimanjaro?
Jun-Oct and Jan-Feb (dry) - wildlife concentrates at the marshes and the mountain is clearest; go on a game drive at first light, before the summit hides behind cloud by ~10am. The green season is lush and better value. · safaribookings.com
Will I actually see Kilimanjaro and Super Tuskers?
Often, but not guaranteed - the peak is cloud-shy, so plan multiple dawn drives for the clear-mountain shot. Amboseli is also one of the last strongholds of giant-tusked bulls; a good guide and a couple of days maximise both. · privatetourscapetown.com
Is there rhino at Amboseli?
No - rhino were hunted to local extinction here in the 1970s, so Amboseli is a four-of-the-Big-Five park (elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard). For rhino, pair it with Ol Pejeta/Lewa in Laikipia. · delfintours.com
Do I need a visa or yellow-fever certificate for Kenya?
An eTA (Kenya replaced visas with the eTA in 2024 - apply at least 2 weeks ahead). Yellow fever is compulsory only if you arrive from a YF-risk country; CDC recommends the vaccine for most. · cdc.gov
